A custom mural makes the ultimate Star Wars style statement. The mural features iconic Star Wars ships and imagery. This type of mural, or even the iconic star streaks in space, would be great in a home theater room.

The White Rented Walls Challenge part 2: A splash of color

6 Oct

Continuing yesterday’s post, here are some ideas for those of you who want to decorate your walls but are limited due to renting agreements. Today I’m going after a colorful, funnier look, but again, under a limited budget.

I’m a big fan of Native American art, so I got to start with a beautiful cultural symbol from the Huichol people (from Western Mexico). It’s called the Ojo de Dios (meaning God’s Eye) and all you need is some sticks (at least two) and thread in different colors. For the basic steps you can see this how-to video and when you get the hang of it, go ahead and try this complex version. It’s stunning!

Other project with sticks is this one on the free people blog where you paint it in bright colors to give a wonderful effect. And this bamboo chime is so vibrant that will remind you of warm sunny days even in the strict winter. To round up this post I choose a cute sweet project that I made recently for my little cousin’s birthday party. The result was amazing with so many different flowers all over the place! The original tutorial shows how to make a paper pom pom. To do the flower just use 4 sheets of paper instead of 8, and open to one of the sides only.

Keybag by João Sabino

29 Sep

The story of João Sabino is truly inspirational, specially for someone who’s starting their own career path. Even before finishing he’s industrial design degree, João was sure that he wanted to do something different. After years of work, he developed the keybag, a handbag with computer keys! After being reject from several companies to fund his work, João started a blog to publicize it. It took a lot of work, but now you can find the keybag on the MoMA store and it even was the star of a Blackberry commercial!

The Done Manifesto

27 Sep

If you suffer from chronic procrastination like me you often see yourself not doing half the things you wanted and planned to. In my case it’s even worse than that, because if there’s a slightly chance it won’t turn out perfect (as in everything) my motivation drops drastically. So manifestos like these help me accept that errors will be made and encourage me to move forward, always. Plus, it is beautifully designed! Try to figure out what each one means and confirm it, after the jump.

Antonio Ballatore’s Downtown Loft

16 Sep

I’ve heard about HGTV Design Star before but I never got the chance to see it since I don’t live nor ever been in the USA. A few days ago I saw season 4 winner‘s home in LA and it got me hypnotized. It’s a manly version of what my dream house would look like.

My favorite thing is probably the variety of art, that in theory it would be too much but it works perfectly!

La Fabrique des Lunettes

14 Sep

I love the retro vibe from this Parisian store. The cabinets remind me of some Mondrian composition. What do you think? Love it or is it too much?
